After 16+ years working in the corporate world, I took some time off to focus on life outside of work. During that time, I took Painting and Photography classes at Lone Star College. I found that the two arts really complimented one another. The work here combines both painting and photography with some common themes throughout…
- Birds are beautiful creatures. I always loved watching them with my grandmother and great Aunt Flora. I also really enjoy painting birds and find painting their feathers and details therapeutic.
- Butterflies often symbolize rebirth, transformation and hope. I took this time off from work to recharge and reset…a transformation of sorts to heal my introverted soul.
- Masks add a sense of wonder and mystique. They also can act as a form of protection or something to hide behind. They resonate with me as an introvert living in an extroverted world.
- Reflection and light are fun to experiment with and can add dimension to photographs and paintings. I often like to incorporate light painting, back lighting or mirrors to add interest and depth to my work.
- My daughter means the world to me, and she also shares my love of art. We often work together in some form or fashion. Whether she’s inspiring my work, helping by my side or posing as a subject, we have a lot of fun making art together.
Thanks to my LSC Professors Kari Breitigam (@karibreitigam) and Lisa Harris (@lisanewberry_harris) for helping me rediscover my love of art.
